No Coffee Coming Out of Machine
If your machine heats up but no coffee comes out, follow these steps.
Quick Checks
- ✅ Is there water in the tank?
- ✅ Is there coffee in the hopper/pod inserted?
- ✅ Is the grind setting too fine?
- ✅ Is the machine fully heated?
Common Causes and Solutions
Cause 1: Empty Water Tank
Solution:
- Remove and fill the water tank
- Ensure tank is properly seated
- Prime the system by running water through
Cause 2: Air Lock in System
Solution:
- Remove the water tank
- Refill with fresh water
- Replace the tank
- Run the hot water/steam function for 30 seconds
- Try brewing again
Cause 3: Grind Too Fine (Espresso Machines)
Solution:
- Adjust grind setting to coarser
- Reduce the amount of coffee in the portafilter
- Don't tamp too hard
- Clean the portafilter and try again
Cause 4: Blocked Group Head
Solution:
- Remove the portafilter
- Run water through the group head
- If water flows, the group head is clear
- If no water, descaling may be needed
Cause 5: Clogged Portafilter/Filter Basket
Solution:
- Remove the filter basket from portafilter
- Soak in hot water with coffee cleaner
- Use a pin to clear any blocked holes
- Rinse thoroughly and reassemble
Cause 6: Scale Buildup
Solution:
- Descale your machine (see our descaling guide)
- Run multiple rinse cycles after descaling
- This is often the cause if flow has gradually decreased
Cause 7: Brew Group Needs Cleaning
Solution:
- Remove the brew group (if removable)
- Rinse under warm water
- Allow to dry
- Lubricate O-rings if required (check manual)
- Reinstall properly
Cause 8: Pump Issue
Signs:
- No sound when brewing
- Unusual sounds from pump
- Machine vibrating excessively
Solution:
- This may require professional repair
- Contact us for warranty assessment
Prevention Tips
- Descale regularly
- Clean the group head weekly
- Use quality coffee beans
- Don't use oily beans (can clog grinder)
- Empty and rinse water tank daily
